On 9th August, MotoGP action will once again return to the United States at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The tenth race of the season comes at a crucial point for Valentino Rossi, who has a chance to extend his lead at the top of the table, with just eight races to go after this one. But if Jorge Lorenzo was to win, he could cut the thirteen point lead between them.

The Indianapolis Grand Prix is also a golden opportunity for defending champion Marc Marquez to build upon his first place finish at the German Grand Prix last month. That was Marquez’s second win of the season and he’ll be looking to add to it this weekend. History certainly favors him, since he holds the record for most wins at the Indianapolis track.

Fourth placed Marquez and third placed Andrea Iannone will both take heart from Rossi’s and Lorenzo’s placings in the last race. Rossi finished third, while Lorenzo finished fourth. For Marquez and Iannone to have any chance of catching up to the top two, they will need to secure podium places at Indianapolis.
